This section looks at the challenges autistic people may face, from sensory overload to communication and processing differences.

Creating Inclusive Environments

Finally, you’ll learn practical strategies to make your workplace more accessible – from adapting the physical environment to adapting to different communication and diverse thinking styles.

This course is ideal for all employers who want to improve their understanding of autism and make their learning environments more inclusive.

No previous knowledge of autism is required – this course is an accessible introduction to understanding autism and how you can improve your practice.

By the end of this course, you will:

  • Understand autism as a neurodevelopmental difference and why inclusive language is important in the workplace.
  • Recognise the barriers autistic people face in the workplace.
  • Learn simple, practical strategies to make all work environments more accessible.
  • Gain confidence in understanding differences in communication, thinking, interaction and sensory needs.

After this introductory course, you can develop your practice further with Step 2 courses such as Autism and Sensory Processing, or Autism and Communication, to build a deeper understanding of autistic experience.
