Communication is about so much more than words. For autistic people, communication can look and feel very different, and recognising this is key to offering meaningful support. This course explores the different ways autistic individuals may experience and express communication, the challenges they might face, and how you can support effective, respectful communication in your setting.

This course provides a deeper understanding of what communication really means, going beyond just spoken language to explore the many different ways people express themselves. You’ll learn about the unique communication styles and challenges that some autistic people may experience, including non-verbal communication, processing differences, and the impact of social expectations. Most importantly, you’ll explore practical, inclusive strategies to support communication in everyday interactions, helping you to build more respectful, understanding, and supportive relationships.
